    This is not remotely a good movie, but it is a highly entertaining one. Featuring the world's worst party (hey, let's sit around listening to two jackasses debate the existence of God and then we can try to talk to a dead ten-year-old with a Ouija board! While these two guys passive-aggressively snipe at each other over this woman, and we all get reminded that "your parents are alcoholics" is a sick burn!), the universe's most lukewarm and pointless love…

    Personal favorite scene is a toss-up between Bonnie reading her poem to Clyde ("but it's death for Bonnie and Clyde") and Bonnie's mother rejecting all Clyde's consolation and saying to her daughter that if Bonnie tries to live three miles from her, she won't live long. Both just haunting.

    A pitch-perfect evocation of a time and place combine with great folkloric eeriness to produce something that feels authentic, modern, and timeless all at once. I really feel like we're in a horror renaissance, and films like this--that take the care to be movies (well-acted, -written, and -directed, with a strong sense of place and characterization) in addition to providing scares--are why.
