If there's one film you should walk into almost completely blind and unsuspecting, make that film "Promising Young Woman". This is such stylish & pretty twisted film that will most certainly not be for everybody, but it's one that I honestly loved practically every minute of from beginning to end. It is such a confident, and knockout of a directorial debut from Emerald Fennell who proves to have such a unique, distinctive voice with this one. This film has one of the most impressive supporting cast I've seen in a while, with some great work from Bo Burnham, and Alison Brie, but make no mistake this is Carey Mulligan's film and she absolutely dominates it. It's easily one of her very best performances and should absolutely lead her to another Oscar nod this year. I just loved how this unpredictable story unraveled, it's very intense, but also darkly funny at times and there's definitely more layers to it than I expected to. A lot of the directions the last act takes will clearly divide viewers, and at first I wasn't sure how to feel either, but ultimately I found myself real satisfied with where this wraps up. Also got to say I loved the score here from Anthony Willis. This is easily one of the best films of 2020, and I'm honestly so glad I got to see it on a big screen because with Fennell's direction, it definitely felt like a pretty visceral experience.
