    Carefully manufactured and brilliantly performed. There is one truly terrifying moment near the end, and a smattering of supremely eerie ones up until that point. The juxtaposition of Alice's descriptions of her dreams with her mother's retellings of her nightmares manages to be both creepy and life-affirming. This belongs on the same shelf as The Haunting of Hill House and The Orphanage.
