William Bertellotti’s review published on Letterboxd:
I graduated high school yesterday!
As for the film it’s great! First half or so is incredible and Nichols’ shot composition and editing create some incredible moments, I definitely see why this is taught in many film school classes.
However once Ben goes to Berkeley the film’s quality takes a bit of a nosedive. The style becomes almost too much, and Elaine’s character overall is pretty problematic. Too much happens too quickly and I think this could have benefitted from a slightly longer runtime.
The ending is famous for a reason. Simon and Garfunkel’s music adds so much to this film.
Hope my adult life is better than this.
