Moxie ★★½

far from terrible but it fundamentally misunderstands the basics of the beliefs it sets out to explore. there are two lines specifically that stick out as particularly sad, one in which Amy Poehler as the main character’s mom describes her days as a high school feminist as not intersectional enough, and one in which the main character is called out for how she uses her whiteness, both of which are attempts to make the film seem far more aware of itself than it is, considering it falls prey to the same problems it claims to be aware of. Amy Poehler is not a bad director, but she was not the one to be at the helm of this film. and i think the script could have used some re-structuring to bring it to its full potential, because it’s not a bad story, just poorly executed
