I’m not sure how I missed this thriller when it was released back in 2010 . It’s a cracking crime film that really impressed me but it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise with Mel Gibson starring and Martin Campbell directing
Mel Gibson plays a detective who has spent years working the streets of Boston. When his own daughter is killed outside his own home, Craven soon realizes that her death is only one piece of an intriguing puzzle filled with corruption and conspiracy, and it falls to him to discover who is behind the crime.
What I I didn’t know that this was based on a British TV show of the same name from the 80’s which was also directed by Campbell.
This is the start of Mel Gibson’s , tired , haggard look and it suits him.
He is brilliant as the detective who sees he daughter die in his arms and he really is , as the title says , on the edge of darkness .
He has nothing to lose so god help anyone who gets in his way.
Despite the deep plot , I found it easy enough to follow .
The action is great and there are two scenes in particular that are so unexpected that they made me jump out of my seat !
I really enjoyed this film and if you are after a non nonsense thriller then this would be the perfect choice .
