    The Father

    ★★★★½

Most of us have had a loved one who has or is suffering from dementia. It’s a horrible disease that’s both frustrating for the sufferer and the carer.

This is an absolutely brilliant portrayal of an old man who refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, and how he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind .

The way this film is made is so clever…

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

    ★★★★

In my opinion, Sidney Lumet doesn’t get the credit he deserves .
He’s directed films such as 12 Angry Men , Serpico , The Verdict and Network yet when great directors are talked about his name is rarely mentioned and that’s just wrong .
Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead was Lumet’s final film and it proved that even at the age 82 he still could make good movies.

Needing extra cash, two brothers conspire to pull off the perfect,…

    Edge of Darkness

I’m not sure how I missed this thriller when it was released back in 2010 . It’s a cracking crime film that really impressed me but it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise with Mel Gibson starring and Martin Campbell directing

Mel Gibson plays a detective who has spent years working the streets of Boston. When his own daughter is killed outside his own home, Craven soon realizes that her death is only one piece of an intriguing puzzle…

I have watched many films made in Africa in my goal to fill in my Letterboxd map and sadly none of them have a happy story to tell.
    This was Uganda.

    Palm Springs

    ★★★½

It’s impossible to talk about Palm Springs and not compare it to Groundhog Day.
It’s basically the same premise but with a modern twist and I have to say that the 1993 film is still the superior movie.

Stuck in a time loop, two wedding guests develop a budding romance while living the same day over and over again.

I’m not a romantic comedy fan but when it’s full of adult humour and has two leading stars that are as…

    The Mitchells vs. The Machines

    ★★★½

It's hard not to be subjective when you watch a film of genre that you don't really like. I'm not a big fan of animation , probably because my house was wall to wall cartoons for many years when my kids were younger and as a parent i feel I've done my share of animation. ( The irony of that is not lost on me having watched the subject matter of the film )
The Mitchells Vs. The Machines is…
