Warhawk’s review published on Letterboxd:
Every time I watch this movie I think it's going to be stupid, cheesy, and childish and it's all because of that obnoxious title. I understand it's a book series, but Snyder should have made the executive decision to rename the movie. I've never read the books (this film combines the first three books very loosely), but the film has all of the pizazz, heroism, and coming of age aspects that make young adult fiction so rampantly popular. I love the war aspects of the film, the Yoda reveal, the Judas, the Murtagh, and the Chosen One tropes of the film. It just screams Zack Snyder and it's invigorating. Some of these tropes have the ability to make you feel like you, a lowly nobody, can conquer the world, and that's what makes these otherwise generic formulas so incredibly popular and resounding. After reading some of the summaries I feel like holding closer to the books would have been a good idea, but I am sad this probably will never get a proper trilogy to round out its tale.
