Hooptober Part VIII Film #10
Children of the claw. Excellent unsettling 18th century satanic chiller. The ambiguity of the dark lord’s rituals and disease-like growth among the townsfolk really works wonders in establishing the sinister tone (also, great score!). As soon as the remains are discovered, the village begins its descent into madness. Angel is a haunting servant to the darkness, faithful only to the return of her master. The judge and his undreamt of methods are the only hope against the growing shadow. This is very worthy of cult status and has me wanting to revisit other folk horror classics like The Wicker Man and The Witch. I wouldn’t believe you if you said Robert Eggers wasn’t a fan of this satanic gem.
