i was worried about this at first because i absolutely can't stand brick and this seemed like a movie that was maybe going for the same kind of cutesy high school neo-noir thing, but it ends up more like a lighter, toned down riverdale? which works surprisingly well. it's not so self-serious that it feels like a parody but it's also not so deadpan and quirky that it alienates you from the characters emotionally - obviously yeah i'm saying it…

near the beginning there's a scene where this self-proclaimed "nice guy" won't shut up about his novel and to really own him, the girl serving the "justice" on anonymous creeps tells him his book sounds like shit. like it's not enough for him to have taken her home piss drunk, pressured her into doing drugs, and tried to take advantage of…
there's a part in this movie where a lady says she takes too long to eat her lucky charms so she just ends up with a bowl of pink milk. lucky charms milk doesn't turn pink, it turns green. this is bad writing. when they tell you to write from experience, this is the kind of thing they're really talking about. bad writing, bad movie.
