    Batman Ninja

Oh boy is this hard to rate properly. First of all you need to commit to the genre and just have fun with it. This is not an anime and not a batman movie. It is a batman anime. It is straight out gorgeous in places and especially the first act (with the feudal joker fightong batman with the moon as background) is one of my favorite animated scenes easthetically.

The film does get over board some times and I…

  • Revenge

This movie has a cool idea for a simplistic revenge movie. I mainly watched it because I love badass female leads and I want to support female directors as well. However, the men in this movie are one-dimensional rapists and the woman is objectified... A lot.

For those reasons I gave up on my political hopes for the movie and tried to just enjoy it as an action thriller. That wasn't posdible either as the director seems to wanna prove…

  • Prisoners

This film has a pretty simple whodunit thriller-plot. However, just like Se7en that simple plot is brought to life with an awesome setting, a lot of charracter development and of course the amazing acting of Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhall. The film takes its' time but during almost 2½ hours I didn't want to look away from the screen once. I can't believe I didn't see this until now and i can't wait to rewatch it.

  • Blade Runner

    Blade Runner

Sure this is a classic and many people will hate me for giving it only three stars. However, while I absolutely love Scotts dystopian world i also dislike his slow art/noir way of telling the story. I think there are some interesting themes and they have been done to death since this came out. The story and the themes kinda die in the drawn out scenes though. I might just be late to the ball - perhaps I'll like this better next time i watch it

    Brawl in Cell Block 99

With this film S. Craig Zahler made me look so much forward to seeing what genre he is gonna use to pull me through the next satis/horifying revenge movie. I love everything about this film and together with Bone Tomahawk it has made Zahler one of my favorite new directors right next to Jeremy Saulnier.

  • Mission: Impossible - Fallout

    Mission: Impossible - Fallout

"They don't make action like this anymore". Well apparently they do. MI: Fallout is a lovechild of the carefree action movies of the 90's and Tom Cruise's belief that scientology makes him invulnerable. Cruise did all of his own stunts and boy can you tell. Every single actionscene has weight to it, be it car chases, helicopter chases, fight scenes or of course cruises free fall through the air 15 minutes into the movie.

This movie does not try to…

  • Deadpool 2

    Deadpool 2

I don't like silly films but I still kinda liked this one. Where deadpool had some cool action while being silly, this one was actually funny enough to make me chuckle multiple times. The action sequences were sick and jeez, I get why people call this the 'year of brolin' - He reminded me a bit of Tom Hardy's Bane which was just awesome.

  • City of God

    City of God

This film reminds me a lot of The Godfather. Just like the Godfather, I was was was exhausted when I finished watching this. There are a lot of characters and a lot of different small stories to keep up with. Where godfather really made me feel like i knew what life on sicily must be like (I'm sure I'm wrong), this made me feel like I really know what gangster life in Rio was like in the 70's.

    Is this…

  • Ant-Man and the Wasp

    Ant-Man and the Wasp

After infinity war i was in chock. That shock turned into boredom with Ant-man and the Wasp. I don't care about anybody in the film, perhaps except our protagonist's daughter who is adorable. The film has no reason for being. It doesn't contribute to the MCU and doesn't seem like it had a vision behind it either. We have three 'villains'. Two of them are goofy and seem like they escaped from a 2000's Eddie Murphy movie and the third…

  • Se7en

The best film in the genre. It's been copied so many times that it almost seems cliché today. Kevin spacey and the last 10 minutes are what makes the film more than just your average police investigation movie.

  • Bone Tomahawk

    Bone Tomahawk

Wow. Just wow. When I saw True Grit and The Hateful Eight I appreciated them trying to be 'classic modern westerns' and loved them for that. However, with this movie I was sucked in by the excellent story, the terrific acting and the beautifully gorey action and THEN I realized that it was also an awesome genrefilm.

  • Avengers: Infinity War

    Avengers: Infinity War

This film only gets better the second time around.
18 movies as a setup to this gigantic payoff. And it is all worth it.
So many big characters who actually all get meaningful screentime without stealing the picture. With Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel brought the feeling of "anything can happen" back into the MCU.
I love Tom Holland to death and it seems like Downey Jr. actually enjoyed being in this one as well. Josh Brolin also does a fantastic job as one of the most nuanced bad guys in the last ten years.
