Tais Nøhr Larsen’s review published on Letterboxd:
This film doesn't have the villian of either of the Dark Knight films. However, it is really close to be my favorite of the three (only close). That is because I absolutely love character- and world building and this is a study in both of those.
When I watch a film about Batman I want to know why he does the things that he does. In so many portraits of the greatest hero of all time the answer is a reductionist "he saw his parents get murdered". This movie takes the time to slowly answer my question in a way that I honestly believe him to be a real human being by the end of the movie.
We start with a vengeful and cold Bruce Wayne but through the love and wisdom of Alfred and Rachel and the father figure of Ra's Al Ghul we slowly get the Batman we all know and love.
