  • Pleasure

With the same sterile look, that dominates the world of professional porn movies, Pleasure makes its brutally honest way into the world of the porn industry. Ninja Thyberg takes an unflinching look at the sex industry in the hotspot of Los Angeles, which is blatantly dominated by men. The film explores sexism, toxic friendship, and the competition between those women, who want nothing more than to be better than the rest while being completely alone in this superficial world. Especially…

  • The Novice

    The Novice

The Novice doesn’t introduce any characters so the viewer gets thrown into the story immediately. Usually, I don’t mind when a movie starts this way but becoming directly involved in what’s going on felt absolutely misplaced here. Whereas this may be effective for suspense in other films, here there is an obvious lack in establishing the main protagonist or any side character given. The tension as such only comes across visually instead of being an organic key element of the…

    Lethal Weapon

Lethal Weapon is a very charming buddy-cop action flick that would influence many movies and spoof films. The police investigation might not be the most ingenious plot but the infectious combination of Murtaugh and Riggs makes this movie wholesome and nostalgic, even though this is my first time seeing it.

  • Nowhere

Gregg Araki’s unique style, paired with an incredibly charming 90s cast made this teenage trash fest one of his best so far. The title couldn’t me more appropriate because the plot actually leads to nowhere, while Araki covers the “typical” problems teens suffer from in a very eccentric way. I enjoyed this even more on my second watch within 24 hours. No wonder that Nowhere has a cult following by now.

Perception and deception - the development of the Self

In the following, I will discuss the events of the movie, which will contain a lot of spoilers.

How do we perceive beauty? We so often view it as a physical thing. Normally beauty is part of the subjectivity of the perceiver but every so often you can see it as an objective feature like color for example, which nonetheless needs to be perceived. So what do we mean by beauty? …

  • Confessions

I don’t even know how to start this review and where to begin with all the issues I had with it. Firstly, despite some obvious flaws, I enjoyed the first 30 minutes a lot. But from there on it went downhill real quick. Within the first hour, most of the plot is revealed in a monotonous confession by the teacher which takes away most of the tension from the following plot. The whole movie literally mocks mothers, children, teachers, and…
