Chris Brown’s review published on Letterboxd:
Puts Batman to shame when it comes to "dark" superheroes. So much more interesting than boring Bruce Wayne.
This is a masterpiece. A fun and exciting blend of superhero film, gothic horror and tragedy that keeps the pedal to the metal and Raimi's style is always front and center.
I always wonder when this is over why it never became a franchise. Then I remember that audiences want to see beautiful people on the screen, not scarred and burned heroes. Heck, even my son was too freaked out by Darkman's looks to want to see anything else with him (which is okay with me, not a fan of the cheapy sequels).
Still this is always a joy to watch and the hero's journey that leads to the tragic ending is unlike anything else I've seen.
