This one was a bit of a mixed bag. It was great to see a Covid Era film that acknowledges the pandemic but only uses it as a springboard to something else. Most of the film is about a mother and daughter relationship that becomes rocky as the matriarch slips into an unspecified mental illness. I'm still not sure if this was an indictment of toxic masculinity or an exemplar of its prevalence, but man - those camera angles and edits. It's definitely one of the more stylish manga adaptations of recent memory, but it's seriously weird, man. And I say that while watching the first episode of the 1990 musical cop drama series Cop Rock.
