Stiffler's Mom and Shawshank Redemption's Captain Hadley: now there's a power couple!
So, there's a dark undertone here for sure but I just thought this was really great fun for the most part. Carey Mulligan is awkwardly sweet (if ever so slightly deranged), Bo Burnham is really likeable and Laverne Cox was an absolute scream. Fantastic casting all round then.
The plot is a little goofy in places, but that's OK. It doesn't feel like Emerald Fennell was going for a serious vibe in this her first full length feature, so as a light and breezy stalker type movie... and I'm not sure what genre that is... it does absolutely fine.
And then, the third act kicks in. Wow. What I said about the director up there... hmm. Now I'm not so sure. It's kinda predictable in places, but turns out to be a really well rounded thrillerama with what I thought was a fantastic final 30 minutes.
Just watch out for Stiffler's Mom though. She's the really dangerous one.
