    I loved this.

    This was my introduction to Hitchcock, shocking I know, and I am eager for more.

    Masterfully directed and staged, this was a gripping suspense thriller that still feels so wholly original despite the number of times this concept has been ripped off today.

    I have made a complete 180 on my opinion of this movie. I HATED it when I first saw it 6 or 7 years ago.

    I think it may be something to do with Oscar hype and my opinion that Interstellar was the best film of 2014 hands down. I was also super super mad that Alexandre Desplat won the gold statue for Best Score for this over Zimmer’s work for Interstellar. A travesty.

    Whoa.

    This I was not expecting. This was brutal. Really, really brutal. And yet, despite or even BECAUSE of that, I am so impressed.

    Isao Takahata pulls no punches here. This is devastating work and any argument that animation is just for kids is laid to waste by this movie and this was 1988.

    Absolutely devastating but fearless filmmaking.

    This movie kinda blew me away, honestly.

    It’s a Spielberg epic I had never seen with a central performance by a thirteen-year-old Christian Bale that is just astounding, the cinematography, the editing, the score by Williams, everything just works.

    Spielberg’s direction here is remarkable. He was a filmmaking titan before the decade of the 80’s was even over. And he still had time to squeeze in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade before it was.
