Splitting it up over three nights might not have helped my assessment if this is really a good movie. That I returned to it two times, though, is testament that I genuinely liked it. There's hardly any personal drama which makes it a very focused movie. Instead, Shin Godzilla is all about political red tape, delivered through quick edits and snappy dialogue.
The tiny budget does show in many of the VFX shots. I would have preferred it if they showed Godzilla only through television images. At the same time I get that there is a temptation to show the creature in all its grandiosity. Talking about visuals, I guess it is no coincidence that the look is reminiscent of the Fukushima news coverage.
