Aaron T. Rex’s review published on Letterboxd:
This has got to be one of the most fun movies I have watched in a long, long time. From beginning to end I was pretty much smiling or laughing, maybe also a couple of instances of me appreciating that a little depth and emotion was added to a superhero movie like this. It's simple emotional stuff but it works and it pays off in the end. I liked all of the guardians which is the most important thing I guess. Chris Pratt is a star, lord. I haven't ever really paid much attention to him but all of a sudden I'm thinking about all the roles he's had and now this one - he makes the film, no doubt. Not every one of his jokes is funny but somehow it's always okay because he's a good guy. Just a damn likeable guy.
The music was good and the action was fun. It all descends into the usual destruction towards the end but I still liked it more than most city destruction endings for some reason. The whole movie had a great look to it as well. Lots of universe sky colors, or what have you. I'm feeling like I could watch it again already. Probably won't though, for a while. But still, great fun, one of the best films of the year so far - that said, I've only watched 12 2014 releases. Man, oh man, that is terrible of me.
