Tyler Harner’s review published on Letterboxd:
Much like Requiem for a Dream or Black Swan, I found this to be a dark, revealing, and unsettling film that I only really want to experience once, but I’m glad I experienced it. JGL gives one of the most vulnerable and emotional performances of his career and it’s incredibly impressive that he’s able to do that at the age he did this. Brady Corbet also does amazing job as Brian with his reserved, but comforting tone. This is a really interesting film about abuse and does it in such a creative way with the idea of alien abductions messing with a child’s memory. The ending scene is incredibly powerful and ties the entire movie together into a cycle often seen with abusers and their victims. While this was definitely hard to watch at times, it’s quite a ride and is certainly a different coming of age story.
