Predicting the plot of whodunit films is almost as fun as predicting the most popular letterboxd reviews.

I was ON. BOARD. For the first part of this film. Then the third act whacked me in the side of the head like a crusty student film from the bottom of a pile of rejects.

Alternate reality sci-fi critique of failing capitalist structures? I'm always here for it; shame it didn't stick the landing.

"DEREGULATE TAPIOCA" may be the funniest thing I've seen this year.

    I Blame Society

Hooked me in the opening scene. Right up my alley kind of humour, confirmed in its self-aware comparison to "weird Frances Ha", a personal favourite. Perfectly charming satire that had the cinema in stitches.

    You ever just... hate men?

    Bloodshot Heart

Despite clear technological proficiency and capability for producing stunning visuals, this Aussie independent falters in a lack of clear direction and poorly written secondary characters, especially the women. The stills are frame-worthy, and the protagonist is immensely engaging to watch (thanks to an incredible performance by Richard James Allen) but I can't see myself ever returning to this film. Visually a respectable debut, but for the sake of Australian independent cinema, Parish Maltifano needs to workshop the way he writes women.

Damn this movie made me horny for a carnival ride... the power of cinema.
