Eraserhead

Eraserhead ★★★

I liked this film. I didn't think it was pretentious at all. It's pretty obvious to me that David Lynch wasn't taking himself (or the film) all too seriously. I have the feeling that much of the 'symbolism' in the film came about in an intuitive way. That's not a bad thing - that's why there are so many interpretations possible.

The film is good at being strange while being light and playful. David Lynch makes fun of his character Henry in a gentle and compassionate way - almost as if he is making fun of himself. Some modern filmmakers have lost that ability. I'm happy this film wasn't made by Alex van Warmerdam.
