  • Jaws

If this wasn't topping my list of films I somehow haven't seen, it's pretty high up there. Either this or Casablanca, which I guess is the de facto #1 now.

Anyway, yeah, this is great. Obviously different than the sentimental Spielberg we would come to know for the next four decades, instead focusing instead on building tension between shark attacks. It's nice to actually see glimpses of the shark throughout the movie. While we obviously see the shark the most…

    Good Bye Lenin!

A solid dramedy about family, as well as learning to move on in the face of changing times. It's easy to see why this was Daniel Brühl's breakout role, as he does a good job balancing both the zaniness of the comedy with the sincerity of the drama. It does get a bit too repetitive with the plot point of trying to keep the mom from finding out about the events unfolding in Germany, but outside of that the pacing is very fluid. Overall a fun watch with some emotional moments sprinkled in. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

There’s also this bizarre moral dilemma based off of a straight-up extortion attempt as well.…

    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

It's interesting watching this back years later. While I don't have the same adoration I had for it when I first saw it in like 2012/3, this still has hilarious performances, great highly stylized action sequences (and regular sequences for that matter), and is just plain fun.

The main thought I had was how much more fun this movie would be if Scott just plain wasn't around. That's not a shot at Michael Cera, who himself plays Scott well, that's…
