Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce 1080 Bruxelles ★★★★½

a mesmerising and maddening reality of life's monotony particularly apparent on women subjected to limiting societal roles demanded by motherhood and marriage. Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles was small doses of dreadful existence hanging by a thread. it's a shout to the void for at least a little change in such an exhausting, drastic routine where boredom seemed to be the only option. a drop of a shoe brush, a plate not thoroughly washed, a button left open—such small things yet a source of some subconscious awakening you move from your seat after seeing constant mundanity (I groaned with the plate she left unwashed and sighed in relief when she washed it again). this film was such an experience. definitely surprised me too because I ended up taking this all in in one-sitting. and for anyone who knew that feeling, those moments, in life where you just stare off into space for minutes as if without end, preferably in your dark living room, with million things running through your head Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles was a sense of disturbing comfort you never thought you needed.
