    A masterpiece of long form acting, framing and tension. That ending is such a beautiful pay off. They could’ve run but they didn’t and it’s such a better conclusion for it.

    Holds up incredibly well. Great build of tension and I enjoyed how the famous shower scene isn’t the one that actually shocks. Good couple of surprises that I hadn’t had spoiled so that was great to see them fully fresh. Everything is framed wonderfully and the light and dark is used expertly to create a mood. The whole thing benefits from being black and white. Only slightly let down by the over explanation the psychiatrist does at the end, but…

    There's something really satisfying about this sort of late eighties, high contrast, noisy anime. An early hit from Mamoru Oshii, this film deals with some pretty high concept stuff (destruction of history, mass urbanisation, the fear of technological advancements) that its goofy presentation can sometimes mask.
