this was really great and deserves a star alone for using cloudbusting by kate bush
the whole time while watching this, I kept thinking about this video I stumbled upon pretty much exactly a year ago where river phoenix interviews some male hustlers in preparation for this film. when they started doing it, why, their experiences, if they enjoy it sometimes and consider themselves bisexual, etc. (they actually have small roles in this film, like the blonde guy and the dark-haired guy with the cap in the café/diner).
I've gotta be honest, I think this…
meh... while the story is definitely entertaining and pike plays her role to perfection, I can't help but think this whole thing simply came together to let her once again play a smart, ruthless woman as she did in gone girl. not that that's necessarily bad, I'm just not really sure if that's all that there is to it or if there is something more this movie is trying to achieve or say

this is easily one of my favorite films I've watched this year. I went into it without really knowing anything or having any expectations and was completely blown away. ahmed gives a phenomenal performance, fully embracing the difficult journey his character has to take on and the conflicts he has to face.
the ending was one of the most powerful moments I've ever seen in a film, with ruben finding peace with his new situation and accepting that a new chapter of his life has started.
a very touching story that I know I will still be thinking about in the next few days
