100/100 Pure Awesomeness!!!!!
Who am I to judge this film. I've grown up watching this film and have confirmed again and again that this is one of my favorite Dreamworks films.
The film does an excellent job at mixing all these ideas and make it cohesive. The chosen one story line may be familiar but there is so much more to this film. Its so much fun by excepting its silly premise while also adding enough to keep it from getting too ridiculous. Most of the humor still stands well for me and the fights mix in everything you would and wouldn't expect. The opening scene has always been my favorite giving us such an incredible art style and introducing how ridiculous and serious it would be. The final fight is incredible because it continues the fun but pays off everything that had happened before.
I think the big reason this film works is because of the cast and characters. It gives plenty of characters to love who are brilliantly voiced by their performers. Jack Black of course being the perfect pick for the film capturing all aspects of the character. The journey to greatness is well explored and give plenty of heart, humor, and payoff through the film. Even as he is the lead I feel Shifu's arc was the best. There's enough exploration within his backstory to give the emotional punch and give an incredible payoff with the final confrontation. Tai Lung makes for one of Dreamworks best villains as it explores obsession and loss. His arc, while devastating to see how far he's gone, gives his clear motivation.
The film also has plenty of other factors that I've come to enjoy. Hans Zimmer bringing one incredible score that sadly wasn't nominated for an Oscar. The film brings in so many themes that I think a lot of people could relate to which my favorites included acceptance, obsession, judging on first glance, and what it means to be special. The analogy with the noodles and the secret ingredient being a good example.
You may not agree with me but I have had such a long time to process my love for this film. May not be a perfect film in quality but it is a perfect film in my eyes. Highly recommend this film.
