The film seems to be caught up between whether to go full War or full Romance movie with not one portion of these two fulfilling the concept. Though the romance scenes were handled with the maturity only Maniratnam could do, the movie as a whole was definitely not up his level.

Promising set up, brilliant screen play through the first half of the movie - only to be let down by some misplaced songs and dragged scenes in the second half of the movie. Nevertheless, a bold and blistering debut film for the director.
