💥 So much to love about this movie. This film feels so fun, playful, and lighthearted… until it doesn’t. Once the twist comes, much like Zola, the viewer is so far down the rabbithole they can’t let go. The direction in this film is top-notch, but what really shines in this picture is the editing. The edit on this film is world-class, original, and groundbreaking. If you haven’t seen it, you really should.
There’s a Polka-Dot Man in this movie, can you even say Polka-Dot Man without smiling? As Scorsese says these films are like “amusement parks“, so just enjoy it, I know I did. No, it’s not a think piece, this movie probably won’t change your life, I doubt it will reveal profound inner truths. It is however a two hour escape from reality with some decent laugh-lines from a man eating, talking shark… just go with it😉
This movie really took me by surprise. Incredible storytelling to show the depth of a relationship between man and pig in just a few scenes. There is a lot of good that happened in this picture. This man’s love of his pig pushing him to confront his past is cathartic in ways I wasn’t quite prepared for. That said, some of the plot points, especially towards the end, I found difficult to believe. That critique aside, from beginning to end, this narrative had my full attention.
