I can only assume audiences reacted to seeing Humphrey Bogart in Technicolor like the people throwing rocks and stuff when they heard "Rites of Spring."
All are equal here. Judi Dench is no better at acting than Taylor Swift. Jennifer Hudson is no more effective at singing than Rebel Wilson. Ian McKellen has no more dignity than Jason Derulo. For possibly the first time in cinematic history, James Corden is no more of a nuisance than anyone else on screen. All brought to the same level. All Cats.
See those two stars in this rating? One of them is for Tessa Thompson being attractive and charismatic and the other is for Chris Hemsworth being attractive and charismatic, and while it is probably possible to make a worse movie starring Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, I would prefer that no one try to find out for sure.
