    The Human Condition II: Road to Eternity


    At first this just feels like an attempt to recreate elements that worked in the first film, with some obvious differences (most importantly his lack of power for nearly all of the film). The basic training sequences are torturous but effective, and his ways of training parallel his ways of running the camps. It was all familiar stubbornness, but then we get to the battle sequences at the end and it turns into All Quiet on the Western Front for a brutal ending. This is the Empire Strikes Back of the Human Condition films.

It isn't about hitting us over the head with some obvious pandering, but has much more nuance than that.     Well, that was a movie! Honesty, the first hour dragged a bit for me. Not that I was bored, but when I realized a third of the film was over, it seemed like hardly anything had happened. It picks up with the action, and a crazy ending that I did not see coming!
