Peter Rogers’s review published on Letterboxd:
Tarzan is a stylistic, albeit simplistic affair. The two leads are cookie-cutter, but are serviceable and non-offensive. Christoph Waltz continues to be Christoph Waltz, which is good enough for a villain.
Overall, The Legend of Tarzan is not offensive, or even that boring, it's just entirely uninspired. The fish-out-of-water moments of Tarzan in England were actually the most interesting. However, once we move to the return home and the saving of the damsel in distress stuff, it's fairly ho-hum.
I think one of its biggest problems was that it took itself so seriously, and there was a drastic lack of fun. That cinematography though...
