Godzilla

Godzilla

Indirectly alerted by Hollie Horror that today is Fabio Frizzi's birthday, I kind of inadvertently stumbled upon an Italian edit of the original Godzilla featuring a score by Frizzi himself along with Franco Bixio and Vince Tempera (url goes to the full movie). The editing is quite extensive and psychedelic, frankly warranting its own entry on this site in my opinion (and I may have to see to that). Giallozilla, if you will — officially Cozzilla. What an incredible find!

It is actually a 1977 version edited by Luigi Cozzi using a radioactive rainbow colorization effect called Spectrorama 70 and lifting footage from various other films including The Day the Earth Caught Fire, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, and even Godzilla Raids Again. The result is bizarre, delirious, and somehow even more frightening than the original Godzilla. A total treasure if you ask me...!

note: Upon further research, apparently nobody is really sure whether or not Frizzi had anything to do with the soundtrack composition for this film, but if you're familiar with his work on stuff like Zombi 2 it sure does sound like him, at least. Either way, the film edit is real and I would say that it really is something special.
