    Not Another Teen Movie

Despite having absolutely no subtlety in its parody (which isn’t automatically a bad thing as it is), it has more than enough wit in its humor and entertainment value in its allusions to romcoms of the 80s and 90s to hold its own.

There are definitely jokes that fall flat, but as a whole I think this works well.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar

“Trish has always wanted to be a portrait photographer. She loves people. She would always say, “A person’s face says a lot about how they look.”

This is right up my alley. I almost never say this - but give me sequels. Right now.

Would make a perfect double feature with Greener Grass (2019).

  • Cosmic Sin

    Cosmic Sin

In my defense, I was on a plane and I notoriously only watch bad movies on planes since it’s not exactly the best setting for a good movie.

I am a sucker for space movies but this is not it.

  • Escape Room: Tournament of Champions

    Escape Room: Tournament of Champions

Not as encompassing as the first one but it’s still pretty clever with its ideas, and it’s much more ambitious which is nice.

Unfortunately, I can start to see the ‘milking it’ trend beginning. As fun of a concept as this is, it’s also a concept that has the potential to get really old, really fast.

  • The Scorpion King

    The Scorpion King

One of the few movies I consider to be both horrible and amazing at the same time. It’s really just a bunch of campy nonsense, and I live for campy nonsense.

  • Space Jam: A New Legacy

    Space Jam: A New Legacy

“Athletes and acting? That never goes well.”

This is just Warner Brothers being so unabashedly up their own ass, and although it goes too far with it, it doesn’t bother me enough to hate the movie for it. There’s plenty of other reasons for that.

I did like the animation though.

  • The Forever Purge

    The Forever Purge

    “Does this translate, pandejo?”

By far the worst Purge movie. Really hideous execution.

I love this franchise but it has clearly run its course. The politics were always kind of built into the concept, but this one goes way beyond that and gives a lifeless, forced and preachy new exploration of its politics.

There’s also a racist character who makes fun of people who don’t speak English in the beginning, and then by the end he’s speaking Spanish. In about 2 days. So good news, this movie solved racism guys.

    Shyamalan Ranked

If you know me you know that I love M. Night Shyamalan. Obviously, the guy has made some stinkers in the past but I still find his style to be one of the most unique and engaging styles of filmmaking in the thriller/horror genre. Like him or hate him, nobody else can make an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Outside of Split, this is my favorite M. Night movie since The Village, and I love The Village. You get…

  • Loki

I really didn’t care for WandaVision, and I thought Falcon and the Winter Soldier was ok, but this one I dig. I was fully expecting this to be as meh as the other two shows, actually I was expecting this to be the worst one, so I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I like this.

It’s fun to watch, the concept is really interesting and as a table setter for future films, it does a solid job. It also helps having Owen…

  • The Boss Baby: Family Business

    The Boss Baby: Family Business

A genuinely surreal experience. I’d be hard pressed to find another kids movie that feels more overwhelmingly like a fever dream - but not like the ‘ooh crazy effects and colors’ fever dream, I’m talking about the ‘who the fuck greenlit this nightmare’ fever dream.

  • Escape Room

    Escape Room

The cheesiness of this concept may seem like an instant turn off on paper, but I’ll be honest I was invested the entirety of the runtime. All of the characters and their dynamic work well together, and the rooms and clues were unique enough to keep me entertained. I’m sure the super low expectations helped, but hey I’ll take what I can get.

I wasn’t expecting it but I’m actually hype to see the new one.

  • The First Purge

    The First Purge

Probably my least favorite Purge movie, but it’s entertaining at least.

There’s nothing in this movie that I hate, much like all of the Purge movies. They all have this quality to them that makes them so entertaining, and I think it’s simply that the premise is so full of potential. As much as I like these movies, I still don’t think any of them really reached the full potential of what these movies can be (although Anarchy was pretty…
