• Midway

airplane goes pew pew. boat goes boom. this one is not for me sorry patrick wilson i hope this doesn’t change anything between us.

i probably shouldn’t even share my opinion of this because i don’t generally like war movies (aside from a few exceptions) and i’m not a fan of emmerich’s work. i’m sure it’s fine for people who enjoy these kinds of movies and i can see the appeal i suppose. to each their own.

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

a gritty, gnarly classic that makes me want to just avoid the deep south all together.

the original rendition of the texas chainsaw massacre is still as effective as ever. i am always surprised how little violence is actually shown on camera! most of it is just implied but they do such a good job with it that you barely even realize.  the atmosphere is constantly unsettling and there are some good performances here. i also recognize how much this…

  • Blood Quantum

    Blood Quantum

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

buddy got his genitals chewed off and all he cared about what trying to light a cigarette. a man with priorities.

although i can see where the somewhat mixed reviews come from, i enjoyed blood quantum. i was pleasantly surprised by the gore and zombie effects. it focuses more on the characters than spectacle, and generally isn’t your standard genre fare. the tone is bleak and doesn’t let up but if that’s your thing there may be something for you here.

  • Girl in the Box

    Girl in the Box

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

i stumbled upon the story of colleen stan earlier today and spent a few hours learning about her story of horrific torture and survival. there have been few cases that shook me the way hers has. the thought of someone being forced to stay in a coffin sized box for 23 hours a day and only being released to be subjected to further abuse of all forms makes my skin crawl with disgust. not to mention all of the emotional…

  • Trick 'r Treat

    Trick 'r Treat

i’m in denial of the fact that it’s my least favourite season and i have to suffer for the next few months so i’m watching a halloween movie and pretending it isn’t 100° outside.

i adore trick r treat. my favourite anthology horror. the stories are a lot of fun and most are pretty unique. it’s dark but not too serious. it’s obvious the cast enjoyed working on it as well. and i still stand by my statement that i would die for sam.

  • Trainspotting

    choose life

i haven’t revisited this movie since i have gotten clean. it is a bleak, tragic, and often humorous adaptation of one of my favourite novels written by irvine welsh. i have always found this film to be one that is difficult to stomach at times but always worth it, and now it means very different things to me. it is surreal. it is brutal. addiction is a subject that is not often handled quite the way it is…

  • The Descent

    The Descent

i’m sorry but that’s what you get for willingly going underground for fun.

a claustrophobic nightmare, truly terrifying at times. oh yeah and there are also humanoid monsters with a taste for human flesh. i love the female cast, they do a wonderful job here. it’s overall an very well crafted horror. the pacing is intense and ending is one that could feel cheap or silly but i find fits well here. i always enjoy coming back to this one.

  • Sorority Row

    Sorority Row

i never went to university but maybe that wasn’t the worst decision after all.

this movie was a lot more fun than i remember it being. ever since i have stopped taking everything so seriously all of the time i enjoy films like this a lot more. it’s certainly formulaic and the acting could be better at times but overall it’s watchable and has its moments. it’s always nice to see carrie fisher show up. there are some cool kills too. it’s nice to return to a movie and find out it’s actually better than you recall.

  • The Thing

    The Thing

    a horror masterpiece.

what can i say about this that hasn’t already been said? the practical effects are top notch and still hold up today. the atmosphere is terrifying. the cast is spectacular. timeless movie.

  • The Craft: Legacy

    The Craft: Legacy

    thanks i hate it.

there are some things that are just better left alone. i usually try to give reboots or whatever you would called this a chance but it just misses the mark by a lot. i’m a huge fan of the original which makes it even harder to enjoy this. nothing redeemable here.

  • The Collector

    The Collector

i once broke my foot walking to the bathroom in the dark. needless to say i would not last a single second in that god forsaken house.

i forgot how much i genuinely enjoy this movie! it’s such an interesting twist on the home invasion sub genre. there are some unique “traps” as well as other means of violence which i’m a always a fan of. i’m usually not spooked by masks but the simplicity of the one here works…

  • Friends: The Reunion

    Friends: The Reunion

made me feel a lot of things but mostly made me feel old.

forever my guilty pleasure show. grew up with it. great to see the cast together again. obviously only fans will enjoy it but it’s a lot of fun.
