i always think it’s a good thing for mental health and mental illnesses to be talked about. i am very open about my own experiences and i think it’s a good thing for there to be movies about this subject matter. and i realize this is just a movie. however, i do find that this story (i understand it’s based on a book) does kind of play into the belief that a relationship will erase or at least ease the symptoms of mental illness. i know most people know that isn’t true but it’s still a harmful narrative. aside from that, i do enjoy the cast of this film and some of the humour. zach galifianakis is certainly the stand out performance. it’s a fairly good comedy/drama if you take it at face value.
