Carmilla ★★½

For a 1980s Showtime retelling of Sheridan Le Fanu's lesbian vampire fable, this is a lot more Shelley Duvall's "Faerie Tale Theatre" (no wonder, she's the executive producer) than Zalman KIng's "Red Shoe Diaries." Meg Tilly is luminous (literally in the soft-focus moonlight scenes) but wasted. Probably a 1 1/2-star effort overall, but I'm giving it an extra star for Roddy McDowall, who steals the show as the Van Helsing figure with a Southern drawl.
