My father refuses to pick one movie as his favorite movie, but this movie has been on his list of favorites as long as I can remember. And it is totally worthy of that list. Redford and Newman are a joy to watch and they make the script so engaging. They make being an outlaw seem like a whole lot of fun.

There are other Miyazaki movies that are better, but this one is still good. Grandma Sophie is a great character and a lot of fun. Having a cranky, sassy old lady main character tickled my soul. There are certainly weird aspects to the story and the characters, but they are at least memorable. And the animation is really lovely to watch, as always.

Not to go all film school here, but the third act of this seemed really rushed. I almost wished they hadn't spent anytime showing us Ben's life falling apart in LA. It could have been just as good (if not better) if the story started out with him in Vegas.

The performances of Cage and Shue really sold the tragic…
