“It’s a wilderness”
Uneven but tense foot-chase thriller featuring some great hand-to-hand combat sequences. I feel like the main characters never really come together, although Jones is quite good, working with very little on paper. I basically decided to watch this because I just recently realized it was directed by William Friedkin. I kind of wish it didn’t spend it’s opening minutes creating a spectacle out of nighttime war sequences that the audience has very little context for. I think it would have been more effective to start with the scene where Del Toro receives his metal and then starts having flashbacks. The good news is that when it becomes an extended foot chase through the city, it becomes very compelling and ends strong.
