I've watched a handful of 00s movies in the past year that had winky/self-reflexive/meta elements that I found grating and dated in a bad way. My first rewatch of this since I saw it in the theater in 2002 shows it hasn't aged a bit. It's not a wink as much as it is a prank. The skater punks have grown up and have therapists and New Yorker subscriptions, but in spirit, this a Jackass movie with an A-list cast. Speaking of, obviously Nic Cage is great, but I forgot how good toothless Chris Cooper is in this.
