i would watch approx 1 million movies about poetry. the aesthetics in this movie is everything i want. i wish i too was a sad student drinking red wine with my friends and talking about william butler yeats. i really like allen ginsberg, and enjoyed this look at his early life. both daniel radcliffe and dane dehaan are great. unbelievable that lucien carr did not want his name to be related to howl and other poems, because honestly??? what a compliment. also unbelievable that ginsberg's first published collection was howl!!! certainly gave me some new vision.
poetry? what poetry? there's no poetry here
football in the snow
mud streaking across the field
so archaic, 25 years ago
lines and rules covered by the snow
and the mud
nobody would watch this kind of thing now
it has a certain poetry
every frame in this movie felt very finnish to me
the plot and the acting were very understated. the characters are stoic, even when they lose their jobs or they're getting beat up, and somehow it makes you as a viewer react even more to their circumstances, because they don't seem to do it themselves.
this is my second kaurismäki, and i will definitely be checking out more!
i'll leave you with this article about the different finnish film language, and why it may be the reason that norwegians don't want to vacation in finland (link in swedish)
was this a "good movie"? no
did i laugh a lot while also getting to watch pedro pascal be a hot dad? YES
other random thoughts
1) guppy is my hero. SHARK FRENZY
2) give slo-mo a break
3) can't believe this is pedro and boyd's reunion after narcos
4) i really need to watch spy kids again
5) hot dad pedro pascal

The Secret of Moonacre is one of those films that have been in my Netflix to-watch list pretty much since I got Netflix. Thankfully for me, this movie features unicorns, which makes it a perfect fit for the first movie of Scavenger Hunt #3!
