Stunned...STUNNED that this is seemingly universally praised. It was excruciating (and I love movies like this, and I love that he used Black and White, and I really wanted to love this movie). In fact I literally think it was terribly directed. It had this constant artificial sheen, this robotic calculation to it’s supposed authenticity (even [or especially] the ocean scene) that was very hard for me to sit through. Few people are seeing it. Just me? In my head? I’m willing to admit-yes, that might be so.
