It’s a really beautiful thing when you discover a movie you love for the first time. Experiencing something so magical for the first time is truly and indescribable feeling. What’s more extraordinary is finding a favorite movie, and even more than that, a truly important movie.

I don’t think I’ve ever been challenged as much while watching a film as I was while viewing Ingmar Bergman's Persona. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it, I really did, but it’s…

    The Lighthouse

Jolly Hallerween lads and lassies! There’s nothing like drummalin’ up a fine piece of artwork with all of yer feller’ sea dogs! This film washes over ye pores with the soothing calming feeling of the ocean waves but when ye start to feel safe is when you start to feel the stinging brine in yer arsehole.

If ye be not vibing during the entire runtime of this film from ragbox to pecker than damn ye! Damn ye fer all eternity.

    Charlie’s Recommendations [2] - The Lobster (2015) - dir. Yorgos Lanthimos

I don’t really cry when I watch movies. I find myself connecting emotionally to cinema but rarely expressing it extrinsically. The Lobster is one of the few films to make me bawl my eyes out.

This is a film that makes me want to make movies; to express stories through the lense of film. This movie is extremely powerful and one that will be sticking with me for a…

    High Life

A movie that surprised me in almost every way. Went in knowing absolutely nothing and walked out feeling as if I had experienced something I needed to see. Feels like a movie that is saying so much with so very little. Every little thing about it has nuance and hits in just right the way. Genius in a way where the film knows it is but doesn’t revel in it. Fantastic performances all around, but the crown jewel goes to…

    The Criterion Collection Spine #725

I’ve been yearning to crack this boy open and rewatch it ever since I picked up the Criterion Blu-Ray!

Watched this as a midnight release but then fell asleep half way through because I was exhausted. Woke up and watched the rest of the movie and even though it was split up it was still immersive and it still stands as one of my personal favorites.

Also this movie has convinced me that I don’t…

    The Lorax

Watched this in my Intro to FCS class with a bunch of freshmen who didn’t pay any attention. It was a really sad experience, especially since that effectively proves the message of the movie.

I’ve loved this short cartoon since I was a kid. Definitely nowhere near as strong or as powerful as the writings of Suess himself, but this comes much closer to capturing his imagination than the more recent animated film.
