As a society, we need more “versus” movies.
We all love Freddy, but we have to admit that he is a real bad dude, just an absolute sicko.
Jason, sure he’s a killer, but he’s indiscriminate, not at all malicious. He’s more of a primal force than an actual villain, and has a sympathetic backstory too.
A wise decision to structure the plot so that Freddy is the ultimate villain, with Jason as an unwitting tool who is turned against Freddy later. Kind of like the Hulk in that way, where a villain manipulates him for a while and then loses control of him and gets smashed. Jason is dangerous, but he’s the lesser of two evils here.
The film is a solid Elm Street story with the wonderful twist of Jason being involved. Everything that happens once the two boys start fighting is the greatest thing of all time.
