One of the movies that makes me feel an out of body experience watching it. The score, the story, the concept, the editing, the direction are all so beautifully woven into making a character study on time hidden as a science fiction film.
Life is linear, that’s an objective thing, but storytelling doesn’t have to be and here, here is a great embodiment that film is the form that can make the objective, subjective.
With the direction and the score,…
Bernard Herrman’s score sent me straight to sleep when I attempted a re watch last night so had to put it on again today so I wouldn’t miss one of the best films ever.
Scorsese captured a glimpse into the whimsical devastating setting of New York that I’ve never seen anywhere else. This beautiful long takes at night really just feel like a dirty fairytale. Paul Schrader’s story of a man who’s had enough is simply spellbinding. Everybody knows this but truly feels like one long moving painting.
