Julian’s review published on Letterboxd:
Exceptional and essential documentary about Sasha, a little girl from France who suffers from an environment of people who don't accept her for who she is, a girl. It's harrowing to see and hear how much shit she goes through at only 8 years old. This documentary follows her and her parents in the process of them trying to convince Sasha's school -whose staff has previously been vilely transphobic- to view her as a girl, interspersed with Sasha practicing a passion of hers, dancing. Though the subject matter of the film is extremely harsh, Petite Fille never feels exploitative, and instead really cares for Sasha and tells her story in an incredibly sensitive way. Currently my favorite film of the year and definitely one of the most important ones, no matter what's to come yet. Beautiful cinematography.
