It's another retelling of Paul's favorite violent fantasy. It hits all the beats you expect it to. But Schraderheads know the joy with his filmography is how he uses that fantasy as a mirror to reflect whatever other anxieties he's got on his mind, and while I really dig what he's doing with it here, it left me a little cold.

"Miss, I hope you don't think that I can be made a fool of indefinitely."

Very weird, unsettling folk musical/cruel comedy for an hour; stomach-droppingly terrifying in the last 15 minutes. Crazy what we'll do to make sense of life on earth. Before you look at this rating and say "oh wow I guess the Strangers sequel is actually pretty good," first consider that I am a huge glutton for:

    - neon
    - synthpop
    - fog
    - HEAVY Carpenter influences
    - cool title cards
    - slasher movies, especially shitty and ridiculous slasher sequels with masked killers

If you yourself are also a glutton for these things, proceed. If not, back the fuck up.
