Easy Rider defined the hippie counterculture and Out of the Blue summarizes punk. Dennis Hopper did not play around and bitingly summarized the egoist drive toward hedonism of the former while pronouncing the self-destructive telos of the latter. Out of the Blue is punk as corrupted self-immolation, an incendiary gesture of angst vocalized in violent apoptosis.
