Video Games Editor for Bloody Disgusting. Quite fond of video games, wrestling, and horror. Also the horror of wrestling with video games.
Today, I finally watched Space Jam. Then I watched Space Jam again with a weakly-written commentary by the cast of Teen Titans Go!
To be fair, my biggest grievance with this was that they didn't connect the dots between Daffy Duck and the TTG! version of Robin being the same character.
As with Get Out, I came into Us after the initial hype and release had been and gone, and subsequently feared it couldn't be as good as I hoped in both cases.
And in both cases I was wrong. Us is a funny, sinister tale filled with hypnotic acting, shots, and musical choices.
Lupita Nyong'o absolutely owns this film in her dual roles. Props to Winston Duke though for providing the comic relief.
Ray Fisher's Cyborg chief among characters getting time to be more than plot points.
Some of the retouched CG is definitely better.
Actually tees up a decent prospect for a sequel.
Otherwise, this is a wholly noisy collection of gaudy screensavers given sentience. The opening hour is utterly painful, bordering on parody. Steppenwolf remains a vanilla villain with added sprinkles. The music choices are dire (ending on fucking Hallelujah), and the incessant use of slow-mo made me feel every minute of these four hours.
Same bad film, just longer, and sometimes prettier.
