  • Good Manners

    Good Manners

An emotionally sharp, deeply prescient Brazilian film about a young queer Black woman forced to be an unwitting mother to a baby werewolf. A genrefluid horror-fantasy about misogynoir, the labors demanded of Black women, and the ways white women use Black women to raise their children. Similar to Get Out in that it’s not particularly scary in the monsters and startles sense, but in the very real dynamics of antiblackness (and in this case, misogynoir) which are structurally and interpersonally fundamental to everything that happens in this story and the society it takes place in.

  • Excision

Painfully real people in this slightly heightened satire world splitting apart at the sutures as its surgeon, a girl who really needs some fucking support, has a psychotic episode on the operating table. Excruciatingly honest, emotionally brutal, genuinely one of the most harrowing things I’ve ever seen. Well done. Loved it. Gonna be fucked up by this one for a minute.

  • The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

An opulent, rich dessert of a romance, tragic and delicious. A fine-dining experience of tender passion and vulgar violence. Exquisitely sensual, emotionally brutal, a game of healing infidelity played right under the nose of the worst guy you know. A baroque painting brought to life in a sea of color, flavor, sweat, and dogshit.

Sometimes you just gotta eat the cock you cooked in the boiling pot of your abuse.

  • The Lobster

    The Lobster

Watching this as an autistic f*ggot really hits different.

A film about heterosexual and neurotypical relationships and the social structures which enforce them taken to their absurd, deadpan extremes. Societal actors reading the social scripts they wrote, fumbling their lines, dead on delivery. Hell really is other people.

    Fucking exquisite.

  • Paddington 2

    Paddington 2

Paddington Bear is my son, and I would die for him even if it wasn’t necessary.

  • Possessor

There are two things that really enamor me about Possessor. The simplest is that being an assassain who posses people is a fucking piss-miserable job that frays you down to the fucking wire. Vos looks perpetually on the verge of an anxious, obliterating breakdown.

The second is that as a kid I had strong OCD-fears around body-swapping and possession. The idea of another person destroying your life in your own body, unbeknownst to everyone else, terrified me. It still gets…
